Funding opportunities

BAVS is responsible for holding and distributing funding to support various community initiatives and projects. Our organisation is committed to ensuring that these funds are allocated efficiently to address the needs and priorities of our community.

BCCF Environmental Legacy Fund

Award overview

This award scheme aims to enhance sustainable development in Berwickshire, with a particular focus on environmental and community development. Applications to be assessed using set criteria to make decisions as objective as possible. Applications will be received throughout the year with awards in April and October.

Applications are invited to satisfy one or more of the objects set out below. Awards to be in the range of £1,000 to £5,000 per project with no multiple applications. Applicants will be provided with a suite of promotional materials that is in keeping with the organisation and its ability to promote BCCF and Bavs. Bavs will arrange for any physical promotional materials and invoice the applicant.

Objects of the Scheme

To be considered, the proposed project must fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Community based recycling, re-use, waste reduction and carbon reduction.

  2. To provide, maintain or improve a public park or other public amenity.

  3. The conservation or promotion of biological diversity through the provision, conservation, restoration or enhancement of a natural habitat or the maintenance or recovery of a species in its natural habitat.

  4. The maintenance, repair or restoration of a building, other structure or a site of archaeological interest which is a place of religious worship, or a site of historic or architectural or archaeological interest and is open to the public.

Note – any work considered to be the responsibility of a statutory authority is not eligible.

Criteria for application

The organisation must be within the county of Berwickshire. Can the organisation benefit from any wind farm largesse?. Please note, this does not dismiss an applicant from applying, but priority will be given to communities that do not benefit from wind farm funds.

Applicants must be a constituted group/not-for-profit, with a current governance document and bank account. The application must meet one of the four objectives of the scheme.

 Application Process

Interested parties should complete the application form and submit it to Finance@Bavs.org.ukThe application form can be found here

Once received, Bavs will arrange a site visit/meeting with the lead contact to discuss the application in more detail.

Applicants will then be asked to provide supporting documentation; Governance documents, bank statement and quotes where applicable.

All information will then be passed to the assessment panel for scoring

All applicants will be notified of the decision and payment will reach successful applicants no later than 30 April and 31 October.

Micro-grants

Please note this funding has now been allocated for 2024-2025 and applications are closed.

In partnership with Duns Rotary and Berwickshire Housing Association, Bavs has been distributing micro-grants of up to £150.

These grants are designed to support individuals and groups in starting new activities or sustaining ongoing activities in our community.
